The RedCLARA Network
RedCLARA is the direct result of the ALICE project. The topology as at July 2007 is shown below, with further detail also given on this page. (Please note that the map below is not yet available as printable PFD - see link alongside for the poster's latest version)
Between 1 September 2004 and May 2007, RedCLARA provided direct connectivity at 155Mbps in a ring topology between 5 nodes linking the national research and education networks (NRENs) of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Panama and Mexico. Since May 2007, Mexico has been replaced in the ring by a new PoP (funded by CLARA) in Miami. Mexico remains connected at 155Mbps, but as a spur rather than part of the ring. RedCLARA is also connected to GÉANT2 in Europe at 622Mbps, via a link between Sao Paulo in Brazil, and Madrid in Spain.
As the ALICE project moves towards a sustainable method of funding, whereby RedCLARA becomes less dependent upon European support, CLARA has taken on direct financial responsibility for several of the network's links:
- Two 10Mbps links between Miami and the countries of Guatemala and El Salavador
- A 10Mbps link between Argentina and Bolivia
- A 34Mbps link between Argentina and Uruguay
- A 45Mbps link between Panama and Venezuela
- The two 155Mbps links that form part of the main ring between Miami and Panama, and Miami and Brazil.
RedCLARA is operated by CLARA. The CLARA Network Engineering Group, which has responsibility for introducing new services and links, is based in Brazil. The CLARA Network Operations Centre is based in Mexico, and is responsible for the operation of RedCLARA and its interconnection to GÉANT2.
