Welcome to the ALICE Website

The ALICE (America Latina Interconectada Con Europa) project was set up in 2003 to develop the RedCLARA network, which provides IP research network infrastructure within the Latin American region and towards Europe. It is managed by DANTE, and is 80% funded by the European Commission. It has 4 European and 19 Latin American partners, including the Latin American research networking association CLARA.

Owing to its success, the ALICE project has been extended until 31 March 2008 from its original end date of May 2006.

RedCLARA logoThe RedCLARA network came into service on 1 September 2004, providing connectivity at 155Mbps between 5 nodes in Latin America [ read more ] [ download topology poster (July 2007)]

Current Status

In March 2006, Colombia and Nicaragua were connected at 10Mbps to the RedCLARA PoPs in Panama and Tijuana, Mexico respectively. With these latest two additions to RedCLARA, the network interconnected the NRENs of 14 Latin American countries.
